Read aloud, read to yourself, read stories, read poems, and read the newspaper. Read anywhere or everywhere!

Thanks for participating in our D.E.A.R. literacy celebration!

Thanks to Ms. Aeckersberg, Ms. Lee, Mr. Pavlic, Ms. Goodall, Ms. Carroll, Ms. Nickel, Ms. Styles, Mr. Wright and all of the other OKM teachers who took time from busy schedules to drop everything and read with classes today at O.K.M. Thanks also to many other staff members and students who joined us throughout the school.

Last week our Education Minister Margaret MacDiarmid encouraged British Columbians to support literacy and libraries:
"Reading is a priceless gift we can give our children and ourselves. It not only helps ensure success throughout our lives, but opens up new worlds to us every day. . .
Reading is the foundation everyone must have to be successful. Strong reading skills bring self-confidence and a better quality of life, which is what I want for every British Columbian. Literacy truly transforms lives. . ."

D.E.A.R.

October is International School Library Month and October 25th is National School Library Day.

At OKM and all across B.C. we will celebrate the fourth anniversary of the Drop Everything and Read Challenge.  Let's promote the importance of literacy, with as many students and adults as possible, reading at the same time on the same day.

D.E.A.R. is on Monday, October 25th at 11:00 a.m.
