WELCOME
TO A NEW SEMESTER AT OKM!

February in the library we are celebrating the Chinese New Year, Valentines Day and multiculturalism!
Our Books to Movies display will soon be replaced by a collection of literature and non-fiction that celebrates cultural diversity.

This month we will welcome a very special guest to our school to help us celebrate Black History Month. Guest author, David Odhiambo will be speaking to students in our library on Tuesday morning, February 24th.

Mr. Odhiambo is a novelist, poet, and playwright, and the author of three novels, Born in Nairobi, Kenya, he moved to Canada in 1977, where he lived in Winnipeg, Montreal, and Vancouver. He subsequently studied writing in Amherst, MA, and now lives in Honolulu.

Advance Notice! - To celebrate Education Week, we have another important guest author coming to OKM. Member to the Order of Canada, Mr. David Bouchard will be speaking to our students on Monday March 9th. He will also have a very special public presentation at the Kelowna Community Theatre that week on Tuesday, March 10th.

Mr. Bouchard is an engaging speaker with a passion for reading. He is British Columbia’s best-selling author and single most sought-after public speaker. He has written over 25 best-selling children’s books which have won several prestigious awards. His sessions often start with an honour song dedicated to his aboriginal grandmother. Presentations typically last an hour and are followed by a half hour of questions, answers and autographing of books. On his website (http://www.davidbouchard.com/) he mentions that he uses "any and all means of reaching out to readers: art, poetry, song and dance." Students should be prepared to be engaged! More information will be posted soon!
