March 14 - 18 is Education Week!
The award-winning author Deborah Ellis will be speaking to a group of about 500 students in our OKM gymnasium on Tuesday March 15th at 2:10. Thanks to the OKM Parent Advisory Council for sponsoring this event!
During the week, approximately 4000 students across our school district will be attending presentations at the Kelowna Community Theatre, and the Central Okanagan Teacher-Librarian's Association (COTLA) is also hosting an evening presentation for the Kelowna community at large. The evening presentation will be on Thursday, March 17th at the Kelowna Community Theatre. The show will start at 7:00 p.m. with admission by donation and all proceeds going in support of Little Women for Little Women.
Ms. Ellis is an internationally acclaimed author, a peace activist, a humanitarian field worker and a feminist. Her novels tell the stories of young people around the world who have been marginalized by poverty, drug trafficking, war or illness. The profits from each of her books are donated to different worthy causes, including more than one million dollars in royalties from The Breadwinner Trilogy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS!
107 years ago, on March 2nd, Theodor Seuss Geisel was born!
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go… " — Words of wisdom from Dr. Seuss

Jack Whyte is in the news!
Robin Hood Revealed!
Across Canada, in Britain and around the world, people are talking about our Kelowna author, Jack Whyte. Articles in the Ottawa Citizen, the Montreal Gazette, the Edmonton Journal, the Financial Post, and in the Vancouver Sun, tell us about the controversy created with the publication of Jack Whyte's newest book.
Mr. Whyte dropped by for afternoon tea with the OKM book club last week. He told us about his writing process, and all about the research behind his latest book, The Forest Laird. We felt very privileged to spend an hour talking with one of Canada's most respected authors.
Jack Whyte is an amazing storyteller! He is also a blunt, practical and intelligent Scotsman, with a terrific sense of humour and priceless advice for our young aspiring writers. Thank you for taking time your busy schedule to visit our little club Mr. Whyte!
